[Financial News] The Korea-US Parliamentary League met with major companies such as Samsung Electronics and Hyundai on the 16th to gather suggestions regarding the tariff policies of the Donald Trump administration in the United States. They plan to visit the US on the 20th to provide support for tariff negotiations, hence listening to the companies' positions.
Members of the Korea-US Parliamentary League, including lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties, along with officials from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with major company representatives at the National Assembly Hall on this day.
Company attendees included Kang Yeon-ho, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics, Park Hoon, Vice President of SK Hynix, Ryu Geun-chan, Vice President of HD Hyundai, Kim Dong-wook, Vice President of Hyundai Motor, Lee Jin-soo, Executive Director of Hanwha Ocean, Kim Woo-seop, Managing Director of LG Energy Solution, Kim Kyung-han, Vice President of POSCO Holdings, Kim Chang-beom, Executive Vice Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, and Jeong Cheol, President of the Korea Economic Research Institute.
The companies reported to the Korea-US Parliamentary League the impact of US tariffs and reciprocal tariffs by industry. They emphasized that if the reciprocal tariffs, which will take effect on August 1, are added to the already implemented tariffs on steel and automobiles, interconnected industries will suffer extensive damage.
It was particularly suggested that it is important to expedite a broad agreement between Korea and the US. Given that President Trump's negotiation style is 'top-down' between leaders, it is necessary to quickly hold a Korea-US summit to achieve a general agreement, which will enable detailed discussions.
