[Financial News] The special investigation team on rebellion and foreign affairs (led by Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok) has initiated a third forced summon against former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
The special investigation team announced on the 16th through a press release that they had issued a detention command to bring former President Yoon to the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office, where the special investigation team is located, by 2 PM that day from the Seoul Detention Center the previous night.
The special investigation team stated that they cannot forcibly extract him by dispatching their investigators to the Seoul Detention Center where former President Yoon is detained. This is because, according to current law, the entity responsible for managing the detainee's custody is the Seoul Detention Center.
They also stated that the principle is to conduct summons investigations and that they do not plan to conduct on-site investigations by dispatching prosecutors and investigators to the Seoul Detention Center.
Former President Yoon has been refusing the special investigation team's request to appear, citing health reasons since his detention on the 10th. The special investigation team, seeing the refusal as unjustified, attempted forced summons twice on the 14th and 15th, but failed as former President Yoon refused again.
The special investigation team is considering the option of indicting him without extending the detention period if former President Yoon continues to refuse the investigation. Special Prosecutor Park stated in a press briefing on the 15th that they need to assess whether it is possible to demand summons or appearance in the future and that they are also considering immediate indictment without extending the detention period.
