Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Announces Results of Inspection of 1607 Sites in the First Half of the Year
AI-Based Tracking and Subcontracting Restrictions to Improve System
[Financial News] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced on the 16th that as a result of inspecting 1607 construction sites nationwide in the first half of this year, a total of 520 illegal activities such as illegal subcontracting, unregistered construction, and operation of paper companies were detected.
Among the 167 sites detected, illegal subcontracting was the most with 197 cases (37.9%), followed by unregistered construction with 157 cases (30.2%), and paper companies with 27 cases (5.2%). The detection rate compared to inspections was 10.4%, down 4.5%p from the same period last year (14.9%).
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport requested administrative measures such as business suspension and fines for these violating companies to the relevant local governments and imposed restrictions on participation in public construction subcontracting for 238 companies, including those involved in illegal subcontracting and illegal employment of foreigners.
A reporting system to prevent corruption within construction sites is also in operation. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport has established 'Fair Construction Support Centers' in five regions including Seoul, Wonju, Daejeon, Iksan, and Busan, where reports are received at all times. The first informant is rewarded with a maximum of 200,000 won after review.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport plans to enhance the inspection system by pre-detecting companies suspected of illegal activities using an AI-based system and to strengthen intensive inspections focusing on sites where social issues such as safety accidents have arisen.
Nam Young-woo, Director of Construction Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, said, "We will respond strictly with a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal activities at construction sites," and urged, "Please ensure compliance with the basic construction industry laws to create a fair and safe construction environment."
