【Financial News Gwangmyeong=Jang Chung-sik Reporter】Gyeonggi-do Gwangmyeong City announced on the 15th that it will expand the 'Free Collection of Waste Appliances by Residential Type' project to allow residents of single and multi-family houses to self-dispose of small waste appliances to realize a resource-circulating economy.
Accordingly, the city will operate waste appliance collection boxes at 19 administrative welfare centers in the area from August to make it easier to dispose of waste appliances.
The purpose of this project is to eliminate the inconvenience of having to report when disposing of small waste appliances for residents of single and multi-family houses and to increase the recycling rate of waste resources.
The city started a project in March 2024, the first in the nation, to collect waste appliances for free regardless of size, allowing disposal without a fee regardless of residential type.
However, while apartment residents could freely dispose of waste in collection boxes within the complex, residents of single and multi-family houses had the inconvenience of having to apply separately on the city website or to the designated agency, which has been improved.
In particular, the installation and operation of this collection box is handled by the non-profit corporation 'Lee Soon-hwan Governance', which is approved by the Ministry of Environment, thereby increasing financial efficiency by proceeding without city budget.
The city plans to complete the installation of the collection boxes by the end of July and start full-scale operation from August.
With the expansion of this tailored waste appliance collection system, residents of single and multi-family houses can visit the nearest administrative welfare center to dispose of small waste appliances in the collection box or, as before, call the city website or the designated agency to dispose of them.
In the case of disposing small waste appliances in apartments, they can be disposed of by inquiring at the management office without a separate application.
For disposing large waste appliances, they must be disposed of by calling the city website or the designated agency regardless of residential type.
Mayor Park Seung-won said, "With the installation of this collection box, we hope citizens can dispose of waste appliances more conveniently and recycle more waste appliances," and "We will continue to promote citizen-centered waste resource policies."
