Establishing a foundation for exporting chicken to the European Union as an ISO 17025 international standard testing institution
In this assessment and evaluation, the Animal Hygiene Laboratory received a suitability judgment in all items stipulated by the international standard (KS Q ISO/IEC 17025).
The Korea Accreditation Board (KOLAS) issued the certificate on the 10th, and the laboratory will be recognized as a 'Korea Accreditation Board (KOLAS) Internationally Accredited Testing Institution' until 2029.
The European Union (EU) presents hygiene conditions that only chicken produced at slaughterhouses under the jurisdiction of animal hygiene laboratories recognized with ISO/IEC 17025 in our country can be exported. Accordingly, chicken production companies in Chungnam can export not only to North American countries such as the United States and Canada but also to EU member states until 2029, and the export volume is expected to steadily increase.
Since first being recognized as an internationally accredited testing institution on August 5, 2021, the laboratory has continuously maintained an international-level testing and inspection operation system through continuous professional manpower training, participation in international proficiency, and internal and external expert assessor evaluations, despite difficult conditions such as vacancies.
Jong-eon Park, head of the Chungnam-do Animal Hygiene Laboratory, said, “We will continue to support local export companies and ensure safe food supply through strict quality management system operation and international-level testing and inspection.”
