Discussion Expected on Customs Drug Smuggling Allegations and Chae Sang-byeong Case
[Financial News] Chief Prosecutor Lim Eun-jeong of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office will meet this week with Colonel Park Jeong-hoon, head of the Marine Corps Investigation Unit, and former Inspector Baek Hae-ryong of the Yeongdeungpo Police Station.
According to legal circles on the 15th, Chief Prosecutor Lim is scheduled to invite the two to the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office on the afternoon of the 17th for a private meeting. It is interpreted as a place to encourage them as fellow whistleblowers and discuss solidarity measures.
Chief Prosecutor Lim has shown particular interest in the two since taking office. On her first day of work on the 4th, she stated, "I am well aware of the sorrows and anxieties of whistleblowers and will take care of them as much as possible."
The customs drug smuggling allegations and investigation pressure allegations raised by Inspector Baek are currently being investigated by a joint investigation team of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office building. However, Inspector Baek maintains a stance of not trusting the investigation team, raising the possibility that related discussions will take place at this meeting.
Previously, Inspector Baek was transferred to the Hwagok District Police Station after raising allegations of external pressure from the presidential office. Colonel Park was handed over to a military trial for not overturning the initial investigation results of the 'Chae Sang-byeong case,' but was acquitted on the 9th following the withdrawal of the Marine Corps special prosecutor's appeal.
