On the 14th, residents watch in sorrow as a joint inspection is conducted at an apartment in Mandeok-dong, Buk-gu, Busan, where a fire broke out the previous day, killing an elderly mother in her 80s and her son in his 50s. 2025.7.14 Yonhap News

[Financial News]  At around 5:18 PM on the 14th, a fire of unknown cause occurred in a rest area on the basement floor of a 14-story apartment in Seongsan-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
According to the fire authorities, 3 people sustained minor injuries from the fire, and 2 of them were transported to the hospital. A total of 11 people were rescued, and 3 evacuated on their own. The fire burned part of the basement floor.
98 personnel and 28 vehicles were mobilized to extinguish the fire, which was completely put out at around 6:39 PM, about an hour later.
The issue again was identified as the lack of sprinklers. The area where the fire occurred did not have sprinklers installed. This apartment received approval for use in 1986, and thus the current sprinkler installation standards do not apply. This is similar to a recent case in Busan where a lack of sprinklers led to casualties.
Fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire by questioning witnesses and the apartment manager.
