Accused of Using Ukraine Reconstruction MOU to Inflate Stock Prices... 'Securing Custody'
[Financial News] The special prosecutor team of Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) has requested arrest warrants for four key suspects, including former and current chairmen of Sambu Construction.
The special prosecutor team announced on the afternoon of the 14th, "We have requested arrest warrants today for Lee Il-jun, current chairman of Sambu Construction, Jo Seong-ok, former chairman of Sambu Construction, Lee Gi-hoon, current vice chairman of Sambu Construction and chairman of Well Biotech, and Lee Eung-geun, former CEO of Sambu Construction."
They are accused of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and publicly disclosing it to inflate stock prices and gain unjust profits, despite lacking the capability or intention to carry out the Ukraine reconstruction project.
The special prosecutor team suspects that Lee Jong-ho, former representative of Black Pearl Invest, former Minister Won Hee-ryong, and Kim Geon-hee may also be involved in this stock manipulation allegation. Former representative Lee was a key figure in the stock manipulation case of Deutsche Motors involving Kim Geon-hee, for which he was convicted.
Previously, the special prosecutor searched a total of 13 locations, including the headquarters of Sambu Construction in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and the residences of the suspects, on the 3rd. On the 4th, former representative Lee Eung-geun was summoned for investigation, followed by Lee Il-jun, former representative Jeong Chang-rae, former chairman Jo Seong-ok, vice chairman Lee Gi-hoon, and former Well Biotech representative Koo Se-hyun.
The special prosecutor team plans to focus on investigating whether the profits from the stock manipulation were delivered to Kim Geon-hee and whether she was directly involved in the crime once the custody of the suspects is secured.
