Notice of Summons for Related Parties Including Contractor Vice President...'Also Charged with Breach of Duty'
[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor team (Min Joong-gi special prosecutor) has notified the summons of contractor executives related to the Yangpyeong Expressway allegations on the 15th.
The special prosecutor team announced on the afternoon of the 14th, "Regarding the Yangpyeong Expressway case, we have notified the summons of Lee Sang-hwa, Vice President of Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation, and 5 others at 10 a.m. on the 15th," adding that "the charges include breach of duty."
Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation is the company that reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in May 2022 that the endpoint of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway should be changed from Yangseo-myeon to Gangseong-myeon in Yangpyeong-gun.
The special prosecutor team believes that this company colluded with the Ministry of Land to unjustly change the expressway endpoint and has reportedly seized related materials. Earlier that morning, the special prosecutor team conducted a search and seizure of the Ministry of Land and Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation, among other contractors, related to the Yangpyeong Expressway allegations.
The Yangpyeong Expressway controversy arose in May 2023, the year after the Yoon Seok-yeol government took office, when the expressway endpoint was suddenly changed to Gangseong-myeon, where Mrs. Kim Geon-hee's family owns 28 plots of land. There are suspicions that the Ministry of Land, the main department, granted special favors to increase the land value of Mrs. Kim's family.
The special prosecutor is currently expanding the investigation scope to include Sambo Construction stock manipulation allegations, the so-called 'Butler Gate', and nomination intervention allegations. Arrest warrants are planned to be requested for key suspects such as Lee Il-jun, Chairman of Sambo Construction, Cho Sung-ok, former Chairman of Sambo Construction, Lee Ki-hoon, Vice Chairman of Sambo Construction and Chairman of Wellbiotech, and Lee Eung-geun, former CEO of Sambo Construction.
Regarding the 'Butler Gate', Kim Beom-soo, founder of Kakao, Cho Hyun-sang, Vice Chairman of HS Hyosung, Yoon Chang-ho, former President of Korea Securities Finance, and Kim Ik-rae, former Chairman of Kiwoom Group, have been notified of a summons investigation at 10 a.m. on the 17th.
