[Financial News] The Rebellion and Foreign Affairs Special Prosecutor Team (Cho Eun-seok Special Prosecutor) attempted to forcibly summon former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who refused to comply with the special prosecutor team's summons investigation, but it failed. The special prosecutor plans to attempt the summons again at 2 PM on the 15th.
Park Ji-young, the assistant special prosecutor for rebellion, held a press briefing on the afternoon of the 14th, stating, "We received a message from the correctional authorities that it is difficult to carry out the special prosecutor's summons directive," and "the special prosecutor will send an official document to summon the former president by 2 PM on the 15th."
Assistant Special Prosecutor Park responded to a reporter's question, "It's like issuing the summons directive again, but if former President Yoon refuses again, are you considering physically dragging him out?" by saying, "We hope it doesn't come to that."
The special prosecutor's first summons directive for former President Yoon on this day was explained by the special prosecutor team as having failed due to the former president's refusal. Assistant Special Prosecutor Park stated in this regard, "Former President Yoon did not comply with the special prosecutor's summons directive and did not leave the detention facility," and "we received a message from the Seoul Detention Center that it is difficult to use coercive physical force considering the status of a former president."
Assistant Special Prosecutor Park drew a line, stating that the special prosecutor team's investigators do not plan to visit the detention center to investigate former President Yoon. He said, "When we conducted a visit investigation on Mrs. Kim Keon-hee, there was a huge public outcry," and "in cases of detention and indictment, appearing in court is done by arrest warrant, so not complying with the special prosecutor team's summons investigation is the same as refusing to appear."
Earlier, the special prosecutor team had instructed the head of the Seoul Detention Center at 2:03 PM to bring former President Yoon to the special prosecutor team's office located at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office by 3:30 PM. This was because former President Yoon did not comply with the notice to appear at the special prosecutor team's office by 2 PM.
Assistant Special Prosecutor Park explained, "During the detention period, an appearance investigation is natural in the criminal justice system, and while exercising the right to remain silent is the suspect's right, an appearance investigation during the detention period is not the suspect's right."
Former President Yoon, who was re-arrested on the 10th, has been continuously refusing the special prosecutor team's summons investigation. The special prosecutor team also attempted a summons investigation on the afternoon of the 12th, but it was unsuccessful as former President Yoon's side refused to appear.
