[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung stated on the 14th, "Fatal accidents due to negligence must be strictly punished."
President Lee visited the site of the Gungpyeong 2 Underpass flooding accident in Cheongju, Chungbuk on this day and asked, "Are there any demands from the bereaved families regarding the progress of the investigation?" This was revealed through a briefing by Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the presidential office.
President Lee emphasized, "It's not just about manpower; we need to address structural and systemic issues," and "Local and central governments must clearly distinguish between tasks to be done separately and those to be done together, and each unit must take responsibility."
In particular, President Lee questioned the governor of Chungbuk in detail about the flood-prone areas in Chungcheongbuk-do, the causes of insufficient storage capacity, and whether the management of local and national rivers is being done well.
President Lee inspected the area around the underpass where vehicle entry barriers, emergency evacuation facilities, flood barriers, and handrails were installed after the accident, and urged, "Checking the operation of disaster response facilities is as important as improving them and providing financial support."
