[Financial News] Thinkfree, a subsidiary of Hancom, announced on the 14th that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Nextcloud, Europe's No. 1 collaboration platform company, and will accelerate its penetration into the European market.
Under this collaboration, Thinkfree's cloud-based document editing solution, 'Thinkfree Office', will be provided as a default in some paid models of Nextcloud. Through Nextcloud, which has a high proportion of public institutions and corporate clients, Thinkfree plans to simultaneously enhance its technological credibility and brand recognition. Previously, in April, Thinkfree laid the foundation for collaboration by introducing 'Thinkfree Office' on Nextcloud's app store.
'Thinkfree Office' is a cloud office that allows users to create and edit documents in a web browser without separate installation. It offers high compatibility with MS Office, document-based collaboration features, and automatic update functions, enhancing user convenience. It also supports an On-premise (deployed) method for public institutions or companies, strengthening security and stability.
Nextcloud is a privacy-focused platform company that provides integrated online collaboration, including file storage, chat, video conferencing, and email. Nextcloud has rapidly emerged as a strong alternative to Microsoft and Google, with customer demand for Nextcloud in the first half of 2025 increasing more than threefold compared to the previous year.
Through this collaboration, Thinkfree plans to expand its customer touchpoints within Europe and further strengthen its position in the global market. Last year, Thinkfree supplied office solutions to government knowledge management systems through Tesla Government in the United States and demonstrated its technological competitiveness in the global market by jointly developing a cloud office with encryption technology with the French security company Ercom.
Frank Karlitschek, founder and CEO of Nextcloud, said, "Thinkfree is the ideal partner with innovative solutions that align with our vision," adding, "We expect this collaboration to further strengthen the Nextcloud ecosystem."
Kim Doo-young, CEO of Thinkfree, said, "This partnership will be an important turning point in significantly expanding Thinkfree's presence in the European market," and added, "Based on close cooperation with Nextcloud, we will introduce solutions that meet the security and productivity demands of European customers and further expand our global business through services optimized for the local market."
