【Financial News Yanggu=Kim Gi-seop Reporter】Gangwon Autonomous Province issued its first malaria alert in Yanggu County on the 14th.
According to Gangwon Autonomous Province, on this day, the province issued a malaria alert in Yanggu County and decided to strengthen early detection projects for asymptomatic infected individuals and focus on controlling mosquito habitats, residential areas, and livestock farms, while actively implementing preventive activities for residents and visitors.
This malaria alert was issued following the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's nationwide malaria advisory on June 20, as the number of malaria-carrying mosquitoes increased in Yanggu County.
The malaria alert is issued to prevent the spread within the community when the first cluster of cases (two or more) occurs after a malaria advisory or when the daily average number of vector mosquitoes exceeds 5.0 for two consecutive weeks in the same city or county.
The daily average number of vector mosquitoes in Nam-myeon, Yanggu County, increased to over 5.0 for two consecutive weeks starting from the fourth week of June.
Jeong Yeong-mi, Director of Welfare and Health of Gangwon Province, emphasized, "Adhering to preventive measures is crucial to prevent malaria infection," and urged, "If you experience symptoms such as fever or chills after being bitten by a mosquito, you should immediately visit a nearby health center or medical institution for testing."
