'Lee Ibu Jari' Photo Seen by Kang Seon-woo: 'Some May View It Critically'

[Financial News]  Kang Seon-woo, the candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, commented on the so-called 'Lee Jae-myung Ibu Jari' photo, saying, "I think there are people who view it critically."

The National Assembly's Gender Equality and Family Committee held a confirmation hearing for candidate Kang at 10:03 AM on the 14th.

Seo Beom-su, a member of the People Power Party, said, "In 2023, when Lee Jae-myung was the president and the leader of the Democratic Party, you visited the site of his hunger strike and took care of President Lee meticulously," while displaying a PPT slide. In the photo, candidate Kang is seen covering President Lee with a blanket as he lies down during the hunger strike.

Representative Seo criticized, "Considering various aspects, it seems that the candidate was appointed not as an expert in gender and family issues with the ability to solve gender equality issues, but rather as a master of protecting the president's mood, a typical example of a reward appointment or a close associate appointment."

In response, candidate Kang said, "Of course, I think there are people who view it critically. And I think such a perspective is entirely free," but added, "However, may I explain the situation at that time?"

However, Representative Seo said, "We don't have time, maybe later," and mentioned allegations of abuse by candidate Kang's aides.

Representative Seo asked, "Will you take legal action against the two (former) aides who claimed abuse by candidate Kang?" to which candidate Kang replied, "I have not done so. I have never announced that I would."

Additionally, Representative Seo said, "Isn't the candidate a typical 'strong to the weak, weak to the strong' type? What do you think is the biggest role of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family? Ultimately, I see that ensuring the rights and interests of social minorities is a significant part. However, there are many concerns about how sincere a 'strong to the weak, weak to the strong' person can be in ensuring the rights and interests of social minorities."

Candidate Kang said, "Regarding the suspicions arising, I believe there will be more opportunities to explain them in detail during the hearing," and added, "I will do my best to ensure there are no concerns."

On this day, candidate Kang expressed, "I am sorry for the controversy caused by me," regarding the allegations of abuse, and said, "I offer a sincere apology to the aides who may have been hurt in the controversy."
