Ulsan Police Department Arrests 2, Charges 7 for Embezzlement and Receiving Stolen Goods
Diverted 88 tons of raw materials worth 1 billion won over 5 years to junk dealers
[Financial News Ulsan=Choi Su-sang Reporter] A group using truck-mounted water tanks to divert raw materials that should have been delivered has been caught by the police.
The Ulsan Police Department announced on the 14th that they have arrested 6 people, including truck driver Mr. A, on charges of embezzlement, and 3 people, including junk dealer owner Mr. B, on charges of negligent receiving of stolen goods, with 7 people charged and 2 detained.
Mr. A and others are accused of diverting approximately 88 tons of raw materials worth about 1 billion won from January 2020 to May this year and selling them to Mr. B and other junk dealer owners.
They exploited the fact that the delivery transaction price is calculated by weighing the total weight of the vehicle. The delivery vehicle measures the total weight of the vehicle, including cargo, at the entrance of the trading company, and then measures the weight again after unloading the goods to determine the delivery amount.
In response, Mr. A and others secretly installed a water tank of about 500 liters under the truck bed, filled it with water when entering the trading company, measured the weight, and then drained the water just before delivery to leave and divert that amount of raw materials.
They diverted raw materials using this method about twice a week and sold them to Mr. B and other junk dealers.
The police obtained intelligence and analyzed closed-circuit (CC) TV to catch Mr. A's group.
The police plan to expand the investigation, believing there may be more similar cases.
