[Financial News] Kang Hee-up, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated on the 14th that "the imbalance between the metropolitan area and the provinces should be resolved by expanding a balanced transport network."
Vice Minister Kang said in his inaugural speech that "transportation is at the center of the new government's vision of becoming a powerhouse in the AI industry."
Vice Minister Kang emphasized, "We will proceed with the metropolitan GTX as planned to ensure balanced growth across every corner of Korea, and we will densely expand the national transportation network, including roads, railways, and airports in the provinces." He added, "We will also proceed with the underground railway project without any setbacks."
Additionally, he mentioned that to innovate future mobility such as autonomous vehicles and UAM, they will support the private sector's technology development and demonstration, and promote the transition to logistics AI including drones and robots.
He emphasized the importance of transportation welfare, stating, "We will gradually reduce transportation-isolated areas where public transportation such as buses and railways do not reach, and create a warm travel environment that considers transportation-disadvantaged people such as the disabled and the elderly."
Furthermore, Vice Minister Kang stressed, "Above all, we must prioritize the lives and safety of the people," and "we will create a safe and fair workplace so that transportation industry workers, such as delivery drivers and freight owners, can be rewarded for their hard work in a pleasant environment."
Vice Minister Kang entered public service through the 30th technical examination in 1994 and has served as the Director of Road Policy, Director of Technology Safety Policy, and Director of Railways at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, making him an expert in transportation policy.
