[Financial News] IBK announced on the 14th that it will invest 10 billion won in 'FuriosaAI', a domestic AI semiconductor design company.
This investment is part of the government's strategy to foster national strategic technologies, aiming to strengthen the foundation for advanced technology independence and enhance the global competitiveness of future strategic industries.
AI semiconductors are emerging as a core technology in the global market with the rapid spread of generative AI.
FuriosaAI has attracted attention as a symbol of domestic technology independence by rejecting acquisition proposals from American big tech companies and pursuing independent AI chip development and mass production.
IBK recognized FuriosaAI's technological prowess and growth potential early in its startup phase and has continued to provide tailored financial support through stages including startup loans, venture capital investment, and technology financing.
In particular, through 'IBK Venture Loan', the first investment-loan hybrid product in the financial sector, it has bridged liquidity gaps before product mass production contracts, laying the groundwork for growth.
This FuriosaAI investment attracted over 150 billion won in funds. IBK's strategic investment is expected to play a priming role in securing K-semiconductor competitiveness and the global leap of the domestic AI semiconductor industry.
Kim In-tae, Deputy Head of IBK's Innovation Finance Group, stated, "We will do our best to support venture startups so that excellent companies like the second and third FuriosaAI can emerge," and "We plan to continue supporting technological innovation and the development of the startup ecosystem as a growth partner for promising venture startups."
