【Financial News Ulsan=Choi Su-sang Reporter】 In response to the increased tourism demand following the registration of 'Bangudae Petroglyphs' as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ulsan City is accelerating infrastructure development and content creation.
Ulsan City announced on the 14th that from the 19th, they will revamp the city tour theme courses to include the 'Bangudae Petroglyphs' experience and programs to understand its value as a World Heritage Site on Saturdays and Sundays.
Both courses allow visits to the Bangudae Petroglyphs in Daegok-ri, the Cheonjeon-ri Inscription and Petroglyphs, and the Ulsan Petroglyph Museum.
The news of 'Bangudae Petroglyphs' becoming a World Heritage Site brought numerous tourists to the Bangudae Petroglyphs and Cheonjeon-ri Petroglyphs on Sunday, the 13th, to celebrate the birth of the 17th World Heritage Site in Korea and to view it in person.
Ulsan City plans to speed up the project to develop the 'Bangudae Petroglyphs' area into a historical tourism attraction, anticipating more visitors in the future.
Initially, 17.5 billion won will be invested to create a historical and cultural trail connecting the cultural heritage and scenic spots in the Bangudae area, aiming for completion by 2030.
The development includes opening a total of 11.6 km of trails across three courses, installing parking lots, improving wetland landscapes, creating rest areas, and restoring and maintaining old paths.
Efforts are also being made to establish the 'Bangudae World Petroglyph Center', which will serve as a hub for petroglyph research, preservation, exhibition, and education.
Additionally, various petroglyph-related exhibitions and experience programs will be prepared at the Ulsan Museum, Ulsan Petroglyph Museum, and Ulsan Daegok Museum to welcome guests.
Moreover, high-value souvenirs featuring the drawings and patterns of Bangudae Petroglyphs will be discovered and produced.
An Ulsan City official stated, “We will continuously develop specialized tourism content so that citizens and domestic and international tourists can engage with Ulsan's heritage in an interesting way.”
