[Financial News] Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced that it will accept reservations for the '30th Anniversary of Local Autonomy Commemorative Coin' issued by the Bank of Korea from July 14 to August 1, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first nationwide local elections, considered the start of full-scale local autonomy.
This commemorative coin is the first silver coin issued with a face value of 70,000 won, made of 99.9% pure silver (Ag), with a diameter of 35mm and a weight of 19g. Both Silver Coin I and Silver Coin II will be issued in two types, with 4,000 pieces each, totaling 8,000 pieces. The selling price is 83,500 won for each single type, and 165,900 won for the entire two-type set.
Silver Coin I symbolically expresses the core value of resident participation in local autonomy through scenes of local government heads reporting to local councils and voting. Silver Coin II emphasizes that the foundation of national administration lies in local autonomy by placing a map of the entire country in the center and detailed maps of 17 metropolitan local governments around it. The emblem of '30th Anniversary of Local Autonomy' is engraved on the back of both silver coins.
Reservations can be made through the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation online shopping mall and nationwide NH Nonghyup Bank, Woori Bank branches, and websites. The reservations will be conducted by lottery, not on a first-come, first-served basis, and if the number of applications exceeds the issuance volume, winners will be selected by random draw. In cases of duplicate applications for the same recipient or address, only 20 single pieces and 20 two-type sets will be registered in the draw list, and applications made through abnormal methods such as macros will be excluded from the draw or subject to delivery restrictions.
The nationwide local elections, first held in 1995, are symbolic of the full-scale local autonomy system, marking a significant development in grassroots democracy and practical local decentralization, which has important implications for the political development of our country. Through the issuance of this commemorative coin, it is expected to commemorate the achievements of the past 30 years and provide an opportunity for the central government, local governments, and residents to re-recognize the importance of local autonomy.
