[Financial News] Bill Gates, known as one of the world's richest individuals and co-founder of Microsoft (MS), has recently seen a significant decrease in his assets.
It is presumed to be due to the fulfillment of a donation pledge of his remaining assets made in May.
On the 13th (local time), Fox Business highlighted that 30% of Gates' net assets, equivalent to 51 billion dollars (approximately 70 trillion 350 billion won), have decreased in recent days.
As of the 3rd, Gates' net assets were 175 billion dollars (approximately 241 trillion won) on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, but decreased to 124 billion dollars (approximately 171 trillion won) by the 10th.
In May, Gates announced that he would donate all of his assets within the next 20 years.
At that time, he stated on his blog, "There will be no dying rich," and "There are too many urgent issues that cannot be obsessed with assets alone."
This year, 69-year-old Gates plans to donate his remaining wealth to the Gates Foundation, which he established with his ex-wife, and close it in 2045.
The Gates Foundation, established in 2000, has donated over 100 billion dollars so far.
Gates and his wife divorced in 2021 after 27 years of marriage.
