【Financial News Jeonju=Kang In Reporter】 Jeonbuk region bus fares are expected to rise by 200 won from August.

According to Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province on the 14th, the Provincial Consumer Policy Committee decided to increase city and rural bus fares by 200 won after deliberation last month.

This is the first increase in four years since July 2021.

Jeonbuk Province has sent the increase proposal to 14 cities and counties in the province, and the fare increase will be confirmed once the mayors and county heads approve the proposal.

The implementation date is scheduled for August 1.

According to the increase proposal, fares in Wanju and Jeonju will rise from 1500 won to 1700 won, Gunsan, Iksan, Jeongeup, and Gimje from 1600 won to 1800 won, and Namwon from 1550 won to 1750 won.

Rural buses (Jinan, Muju, Jangsu, Imsil, Sunchang, Gochang, Buan) will rise from 1600 won to 1800 won.

Jeonbuk Province previously commissioned an accounting firm to study the fare increase, with the results showing a 200 won increase considering other provinces' fares as the first option, and a 500 won increase reflecting transportation companies' finances as the second option.

A Jeonbuk Province official explained, "Transportation companies requested an increase of at least 480 won to as much as 3920 won due to management difficulties," adding, "We couldn't meet all these demands, so we derived an appropriate increase plan through the study."
