Daegu City, Preparing for Successful Hosting of World Shooting Championship

Kim Jeong-gi, Acting Mayor of Daegu (Administrative Mayor), inspected the site at Daegu International Shooting Range in Buk-gu, Daegu City, on the morning of the 14th and said this.
He added, "As part of the foundation for the bid, we have proactively pursued the facility improvement project at Daegu International Shooting Range," emphasizing that "having been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's public project in September 2024, we have secured 13.3 billion KRW in national funds and are additionally investing 5.7 billion KRW in city funds, proceeding with a total of 19 billion KRW in facility improvements."
This project aims to meet the facility standards of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) by newly expanding the combined final shooting range for pistols and rifles and the shotgun range, and it is expected to be developed as an integrated sports space that promotes human rights and peace, allowing use by both disabled and non-disabled individuals.
The design service began last June, with construction starting in March 2026 and completion aimed for June 2027, progressing without a hitch.
Additionally, by improving access roads and expanding surrounding infrastructure, the accessibility and convenience around Daegu International Shooting Range will also be enhanced.
Acting Mayor Kim emphasized, "With the consecutive hosting of various global sports events such as the FC Barcelona Asia Tour match, Daegu Marathon, 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships, and the 2027 World Shooting Championship, we will vigorously leap beyond 'International Athletics City' to 'International Sports Hub'."
The World Shooting Championship, considered one of the top three shooting competitions along with the World Cup and the Olympics, is the highest authority competition organized by the International Shooting Sport Federation, directly linked to world ranking calculations and Olympic qualification, and is expected to attract a large number of world-class athletes.
This event is expected to bring around 2,000 shooting athletes and officials from 90 countries worldwide to Daegu, covering approximately 26 events including rifles and pistols.
This is expected to inject significant vitality into the local economy through active consumption activities in various fields such as accommodation, tourism, and shopping.
Meanwhile, specialized research on the '2027 World Shooting Championship Operation' is underway at the Daegu Policy Research Institute, and the city emphasized that it plans to swiftly promote the enactment of ordinances and the establishment of detailed operational systems necessary for the launch of the organizing committee as soon as the research results are available in September.
Additionally, the budget for the operation and preparation of the event is estimated to be around 5.5 billion KRW, and the city plans to actively participate in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'Local Government Hosted International Event Support' public project to secure government funding, making every effort to secure the budget.
