[Financial News] The court has ruled that the producers of a documentary film denying the sexual violence case of the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon must compensate the victim 10 million won.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the Seoul Southern District Court Civil Division 15 (Presiding Judge Yoon Chan-young) ruled partially in favor of the plaintiff in a damages lawsuit filed by the victim against the film 'First Plea' producer Kim Dae-hyun and the documentary production committee 'People Who Trust Park Won-soon' on the 3rd.
The court determined that Director Kim and the production committee are jointly liable to compensate the victim 10 million won. Furthermore, it restricted the posting and advertising for the provision of services such as on/offline screenings, streaming, and downloads of the film produced by the defendants, and ordered them to pay the plaintiff 20 million won per violation if breached.
The court stated, "The film contains content alleging that the victim falsely accused the late mayor due to distorted memories influenced by biased women's groups or attorneys," and "It also includes criticism that the innocent deceased was driven to death, severely degrading the victim's social evaluation and significantly infringing on personal rights."
Meanwhile, the film 'First Plea' was produced based on the book 'Birth of Tragedy' by Son Byeong-gwan, a journalist from OhmyNews, which deals with the sexual harassment case of the late mayor. However, the book was criticized for being a secondary assault on the victim, claiming the victim lacked 'victim-like' traits.
