[Financial News] Coupang Logistics Service (CLS) held an event to distribute items to prevent heat-related illnesses during the hot season to delivery drivers belonging to delivery companies, in collaboration with consignment delivery company officials. Additionally, for safety, they introduced a backup driver system for the first time in the industry, allowing customers to receive '7-day delivery' while delivery drivers can work 'less than 5 days a week'.
According to CLS on the 14th, this event was held at the Songpa Camp in Seoul on the afternoon of the 13th for delivery drivers (Quickflexers) belonging to delivery companies. About 10 people, including CLS CEO Hong Yongjun and representatives of delivery companies, participated and distributed cool water, ion drinks, neck coolers, cool sleeves, cool patches, and sports candies to Quickflexers.
CLS plans to distribute cool sleeves, a popular cooling item, to Quickflexers nationwide, and also provide cooling bags that can keep ice water cool when booking health check-ups, with all costs fully supported by CLS.
CLS and consignment delivery companies have signed a business agreement with a specialized medical institution for the first time in the industry to provide comprehensive health check-ups and specialized health management programs to Quickflexers. For this, the specialized medical institution operates a dedicated team composed of occupational and environmental medicine specialists, health management specialist nurses, and other experts, with all related costs fully supported by CLS.
Mr. Jeon (41), an employee of HO Logistics, said, "I was delivering 6 days a week until last month, but now I am delivering 5 days a week from this month," adding, "Without the backup driver system, 5-day delivery would not have been possible."
Since general courier drivers typically deliver 6 days a week, they can only take summer vacations if there is a 'no delivery day' in August, but delivery drivers belonging to CLS delivery companies can deliver 4 or 5 days a week and take vacations regardless of the season through the backup driver system. It's like having a 'no delivery day' every month.
CLS plans to implement a 'mandatory rest system' in 2025, requiring delivery drivers who choose 6-day delivery to take at least one 2-day consecutive rest every half-year, thereby realizing a 'no delivery day' on their desired schedule every half-year.
CEO Hong Yongjun said, "CLS is the first in the industry to operate a structure where consignment delivery companies must secure backup driver personnel from the contract stage, making 4-day and 5-day deliveries possible," adding, "We will continue to work with consignment delivery companies to expand delivery drivers' rest days."
