[Financial News]  It was revealed that a Chinese woman sold her two biological sons to give tips to a live streaming host, causing public outrage.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 13th (local time), Hwang Mo (26), who was an adoptee from Guangxi Province in southern China, left home after receiving only elementary education due to the lack of education and care from her adoptive parents.

Afterwards, she made a living doing odd jobs and gave birth to her first son in October 2020, facing economic difficulties in the absence of her husband.

In an attempt to escape poverty, Hwang made an unacceptable choice. She decided to sell her son.

At that time, her landlord, who learned of Hwang's plan, introduced her to his relative, Mr. Lee. Hwang, who had been infertile for a long time, illegally adopted Mr. Lee's son for 45,000 yuan (approximately 863,000 won).

Surprisingly, Hwang used the entire amount to tip the streaming host. When the money ran out, she attempted even more extreme measures.

After planning to get pregnant with another child, she actively sought a man to have sexual relations with. In this way, Hwang gave birth to her second son in 2022 and sold him to a broker for 38,000 yuan (about 730,000 won). The broker resold the baby for 103,000 yuan (about 1.98 million won).

Hwang again used this money to tip the streamer, and spent the remaining money on clothes and luxury goods. Eventually, she was reported to the authorities for fraud on April 13, 2022.

Police investigations revealed chat records related to child sales on Hwang's mobile phone. Both sons were rescued by the police and are under the care of local authorities, currently awaiting adoption.

On the 8th, the People's Court of Jin'an District in Fuzhou sentenced Hwang to 5 years and 2 months in prison for fraud and human trafficking, and fined her 30,000 yuan (about 576,000 won).

Mr. Lee was sentenced to 9 months in prison with a 1-year probation for purchasing trafficked children, and the landlord was sentenced to 7 months in prison.

The media added, "Human trafficking in China has a long and complex history. In particular, the illegal adoption of boys was considered essential to maintain family lineage and enhance family status."
