Searches at 24 Military-Related Locations Including Ministry of Defense
[Financial News] The Civil War and Foreign Exchange Special Investigation Team (led by Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok) has launched a forced investigation into military facilities, including the Ministry of Defense, intensifying the investigation into foreign exchange charges.
The special investigation team announced on the 14th, "Starting at around 9 a.m. today, we are conducting searches and seizures at 24 military-related locations, including the Ministry of Defense." The specific search locations are known to include the Drone Operations Command in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, the residence of Drone Operations Commander Kim Yong-dae, the Ministry of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the National Security Office, and the Defense Security Command.
The special investigation team is investigating allegations that former President Yoon sent drones to Pyongyang last October to provoke North Korean aggression as a pretext for declaring martial law.
North Korea revealed a crashed drone last October, claiming "a drone from South Korea infiltrated Pyongyang and dropped anti-North Korean leaflets." In connection with this, after the declaration of martial law, the Democratic Party of Korea argued that the Drone Operations Command sent the drone to Pyongyang under the direction of the National Security Office.
The Drone Operations Command is a joint combat unit of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, established in 2023 to respond to enemy drones, among others. It operates under the command and supervision of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff according to the National Defense Organization Act.
The special investigation team has reportedly obtained a recording in which a current military officer stated, "I heard from Drone Operations Commander Kim Yong-dae that 'sending the drone to Pyongyang was instructed by V (former President Yoon).'"
