A guide on how to use stainless steel and glass cups... Criticism of rude expressions
[Financial News] There is ongoing online criticism regarding a guide on cup usage at a restaurant, deemed rude by many.
News1 introduced a photo uploaded to an online community on the 13th, claiming it was a guide posted by a restaurant owner.
The photo highlighted two guides posted in front of the restaurant's ultraviolet sterilizer. The guide reads, "Glass cups are for drinks and alcohol only. They are not meant for drinking sikhye or sujeonggwa."
Another guide states, "Sikhye and sujeonggwa are prohibited from using glass cups! You know what a glass cup is, right?" followed by "In case you don't know, if you want to use it, do the dishes yourself."
It also says, "You, who lack consideration, are recorded on CCTV as evidence. Everything is visible. It's hard to keep saying this. Don't use them."
The guide suggests that the restaurant provides sikhye and sujeonggwa as a service, requesting the use of stainless steel cups.
The online criticism focuses on the expressions used in the guide. Many criticized the use of 'you' to refer to paying customers or the suggestion to 'do the dishes yourself.'
Netizens reacted with comments like, "It seems like they mean carbonated drinks when they say drinks, but what's the difference in washing a glass used for carbonated drinks versus one used for sujeonggwa or sikhye? It's a curious place unless they're limiting the number of cups per person," or "I understand the prohibition, but saying 'do the dishes yourself if you want to use it' is rude," and "It's marketing that gets criticized even when providing a service."
