is located within the first site of the second phase cultural park in Dongtan 1 New Town (Seokwoo-dong 654 area), and it is a large-scale complex park with a total area of 74,232㎡, of which about 19,000㎡ is dedicated to water play spaces.
Dongtan Family Pool is a family-friendly complex park equipped with water play facilities and convenience spaces that can be enjoyed by families together.
It will be open for free to citizens for about six weeks from the 19th to August 31st, with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After operating for 50 minutes every hour, a 10-minute break will be given, and from 12 noon to 1 p.m., it will be used for facility maintenance.
Every Monday is a regular closed day.
The Family Pool can be reserved by anyone through the Naver reservation system, and during the trial operation period, it will be limited to about 500 people per day.
Reservations can be made from 0:00 three days before the date of use, and if not used after reservation, reservations will be restricted for 10 days to prevent no-shows (unauthorized non-use).
Water play facilities include △ Aqua pool with a depth of 0.87m (2,990㎡) △ Toddler-exclusive toddler pool (254㎡), △ Floating river pool (765㎡) △ Healing hot water pool using 34℃ hot water (116㎡) △ Forest Blue (musical fountain) has been established.
Also, △ Riverside Observation Deck (422㎡) has an observation deck, rest area, restroom, and management office, and is designed as a space where you can relax while viewing Seokwoo Stream.
For pleasant use, changing rooms, outdoor showers, air curtains, parasols, shades, and benches are also provided.
Initially, the site was to be developed as a general neighborhood park by the developer, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), but the city officially requested LH to change the development plan to a 'water play specialized park' in December 2019, reflecting citizen demand for family leisure spaces.
After strategic persuasion and continuous consultations, LH finally reflected the plan to install water play facilities in the park in July 2020.
In October of the same year, the 'Dongtan Family Pool Basic Concept (Draft) Briefing Session' was held to share the plan contents with citizens and collect opinions, securing citizen participation and transparency.
In particular, Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun personally visited the Dongtan Family Pool construction site last May to closely examine the operation preparation status and plans to visit the site again on the 18th, the day before the opening, for a final inspection.
In addition, the city conducted a full safety inspection for one month in June on 24 water play-type children's play facilities and 123 water landscape facilities (musical fountains, floor fountains, streams, etc.) in the area, including the Dongtan Family Pool, to prevent summer water play safety accidents.
Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun said, "In the hot summer, the city has put all its efforts into creating the Dongtan Family Pool so that families can enjoy a cool and safe summer in Hwaseong without traveling far," and "Changing the site originally planned as a general park to a water play specialized space according to citizen demand is also the result of Hwaseong Special City’s active administration."
