【Financial News Muan=Hwang Taejong Reporter】Jeonnam-do announced on the 14th that it has proactively inspected 3207 agricultural reservoirs to secure agricultural water and manage storage rates in response to the lack of rainfall due to heatwaves and short monsoon seasons.
This inspection was conducted to comprehensively check major items directly related to the supply of agricultural water, such as the status of storage rates, the operation status of intake facilities, leakage, and the status of securing alternative water sources, to prevent water shortage situations in advance.
Among the 3207 agricultural reservoirs, Jeonnam-do is implementing water filling for 46 key management reservoirs where the storage capacity is insufficient compared to the beneficiary area or where agricultural water supply shortages occur annually, by prioritizing the deployment of emergency water supply equipment and personnel such as nearby wells and pumping stations to prevent the storage rate from falling below 50%.
In addition, to prepare for the prolonged heatwave this summer, they plan to continuously promote agricultural water measures by establishing a rapid response system linked with weather information, developing wells, installing simple pumping stations and pipelines, and establishing customized water supply measures suitable for the region, concentrating budget and administrative power.
Park Hyunsik, Director of the Agricultural and Livestock Food Bureau of Jeonnam-do, said, "Water shortage can cause critical damage to crop growth even in a short period, so preemptive preparation is important," and "We will ensure the securing and supply of agricultural water so that residents can continue their farming activities stably without worrying about water."
