Eon-Seok Song Dismisses, "We Need to Gather Opinions to Decide Party Stance"
[Financial News] Hee-Sook Yoon, Chairman of the Innovation Committee of the People Power Party, has been strongly criticized within the party for urging those who do not apologize for the mismanagement of the Yoon Seok-Yeol government and the failure to overcome the 'sea of martial law and impeachment' to "leave the party." The party leadership expressed opposition to Yoon's innovation plan on the 14th, stating, "The ultimate goal is not to oust people," and "We need to gather more opinions from inside and outside the party to finally determine the party's stance."
Eon-Seok Song, Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee and Floor Leader of the People Power Party, met with reporters at the National Assembly on the 14th and said, "It's difficult to erase what happened (regarding opposition to impeachment)," and "We need to gather consensus with the thought that we are all subjects and targets of innovation."
On the 10th, Chairman Yoon proposed the first innovation plan to engrave an apology for the martial law and impeachment of former President Yoon in the party constitution and regulations, and suggested putting it to a vote of all party members. On the 13th, Chairman Yoon mentioned the '8 major incidents' that caused party members to despair and feel ashamed.
The '8 major incidents' include △defeat in the presidential election △attempt to change the presidential candidate △reversal of the unification of the presidential candidate △participation in protests in front of the presidential residence △controversy on the party member bulletin board involving the party leader's family △ignoring the principles of proportional representation nomination for the 22nd general election △violation of the party constitution and regulations for a specific person △neglecting the distortion of state affairs by the Yoon Seok-Yeol administration, and Chairman Yoon believes those involved should be held accountable.
Chairman Yoon also proposed abolishing the Supreme Council system and creating a Central Party Affairs Committee as the 'second innovation plan.'
When the first innovation plan was announced, some lawmakers like Na Kyung-Won and Jang Dong-Hyuk opposed it, questioning "why an apology is necessary," to which Chairman Yoon responded, "Those who say an apology is unnecessary are the top priority for personnel renewal." Regarding this, Chairman Song dismissed it by saying, "The ultimate goal is not to oust any person," and "There was also an opinion to discuss it through joint meetings of the emergency committee and the innovation committee."
Chairman Song emphasized the need for a procedure to gather opinions, stating, "It's necessary to harmoniously neutralize and gather strength in parts where interests are intertwined," and "We will have a process to gather opinions."
The Innovation Committee planned to put the proposal to engrave an apology for the missteps of former President Yoon in the party constitution and regulations to a vote as early as the 14th-15th, but it was virtually scrapped. Chairman Song argued, "Gathering the consensus of all party members can be a method, but a process to harmoniously adjust opinions is also necessary."
As the leadership adjusts the speed of preparing the innovation plan under the pretext of gathering opinions, the initial goal of the Innovation Committee to prepare the innovation plan by July seems to be hitting a snag. The People Power Party is expected to go through processes such as joint meetings and general meetings of lawmakers rather than granting full authority to the Innovation Committee to speed up the process.
