According to Lotte Tour Development on the 14th, the Korea-Japan Children's and Youth International Dance Camp is a dance art exchange project jointly planned by the Jeju City Ballet Company and the Japan Miyazaki C-Dance Center to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. It is sponsored by Jeju Dream Tower Complex Resort and Jeju Mecenat Association.
Jeju Island and Miyazaki City, both popular tourist and resort cities in Korea and Japan, are expected to expand exchanges centered on dance art to understand each country's culture and art and enhance the image of Jeju as a cultural city.
Children and youth from Jeju and Miyazaki participating in this camp will receive guidance from famous dancers from both countries in various workshops, including traditional dance, modern dance, ballet, and K-pop dance, from the 25th to the 26th. Afterward, a joint performance will be held at the Jeju BeIN Theater on the 27th.
Before the camp, children and youth from Miyazaki, Japan, will conduct cultural tours, including Jeju Stone Park, and the Jeju City Ballet Company will hold a free ballet workshop for 60 children and youth nationwide who wish to major in ballet from the 24th to the 25th, separate from the dance camp.
Kim Gilli, director of the Jeju City Ballet Company, stated, “Currently, cultural and artistic exchanges between Korea and Japan are centered on adults, but it is significant that children and youth, the future artists, contribute to the long-term enhancement of friendship between the two countries through art exchange.”
Meanwhile, Jeju Dream Tower Complex Resort has previously sponsored various projects to expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for Jeju residents, including the Jeju City Ballet Company, the Jerajin Boys and Girls Choir singing in Jeju dialect, the exhibition of the Seonheul Drawing Grandmothers, which inspired the popular drama 'Poksak Sokassuda,' and exhibitions by young artists.
Additionally, the Seed Library Campaign, a Jeju children's reading education program, is conducted annually, distributing books to all classes in elementary schools in the province. It also runs reading education and poetry camps and has been officially sponsoring the Jeju Children's Creative Art Contest for five years.
