Scatter Lab announced on the 14th that it has achieved a profit for three consecutive quarters from the fourth quarter of last year to the second quarter of this year, thanks to the rapid growth of its own artificial intelligence (AI) entertainment platform 'Zeta'. The recent quarterly sales amount to approximately 5.2 billion KRW, with an operating profit margin of 17%.
Scatter Lab successfully turned a profit just seven months after the open beta launch of 'Zeta' in April last year. Since the launch of Zeta, the average monthly sales growth rate has been about 20%, and the average monthly operating profit growth rate after turning a profit has been about 42%, continuing its rapid growth.
'Zeta' is an AI entertainment platform where users can create AI characters and enjoy highly immersive, hyper-personalized story content. Through interaction with AI characters, users can create realistic content as if experiencing a web novel, recording 2 million users within a year of launch, and surpassing 2.3 billion conversations per month (global standard).
As of June this year, the number of Zeta users reached 3 million, with 1.1 million monthly active users (MAU), solidifying its position as the number one AI entertainment platform in both Korea and Japan. Zeta ranks first in Korea in terms of subscribers and users among entertainment-type AI chat apps (based on Mobile Index), and first in daily active users (DAU) in Japan (based on App Ape).
Scatter Lab has vertically integrated the entire process from data construction, model training, serving optimization, to app design, based on its independently developed generative AI language model 'Spotwrite-1', without relying on external large language model APIs. This internalization of technology acts as a key competitive edge, enhancing profitability and technical completeness by reducing operating costs and increasing the speed of feature upgrades.
Additionally, Scatter Lab continues to update features to enhance the 'Zeta' user experience. Recently, interactive elements such as the 'Snapshot' feature, which generates images depicting the current situation with just a button click during conversations, and the 'Voice' feature, which allows users to hear AI character dialogues in real voice, have been added.
Scatter Lab expects to continue its positive performance trend in the second half of this year. It plans to further accelerate its efforts to penetrate English-speaking overseas markets, including the Japanese market, which it entered last year.
Jong-Yoon Kim, CEO of Scatter Lab, said, "The technology and know-how accumulated over the past decade in developing various AI platforms, and the experience of constantly pondering what value the interaction between humans and AI creates, have been the foundation of Zeta's success." He added, "In the remaining half of the year, we plan to further enhance the intrinsic fun of 'AI Entertainment' with 'Zeta' based on new technologies, while aiming for a global platform with 100 million users in the long term."
