[Financial News] The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) will conduct a joint inspection of frequent and dangerous traffic accident sites in local governments ranked low in the Traffic Culture Index from the 14th to the 30th.
The targets of the joint inspection are four local governments: Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi, Dong-gu, Busan, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi, and Seocho-gu, Seoul. The inspection sites were selected through consultations with related organizations such as local governments and police stations, focusing on intersections where traffic accidents frequently occur, areas with frequent traffic complaints, and areas with vulnerable pedestrian environments.
The inspection items include △whether pedestrian safety facilities are secured (such as the condition of crosswalks and sidewalks) △the physical separation state between roads and sidewalks △the installation status and appropriateness of traffic safety facilities such as signals and signs △the appropriateness of intersection geometric structures (such as slopes and alignments).
The joint inspection involves a public-private joint investigation team composed of TS, local governments, police stations, traffic engineers, and local traffic experts.
In addition, based on the inspection results, measures to improve the traffic environment will be prepared. Technical advice will also be provided in parallel to ensure immediate improvements for urgent matters.
Chairman Jeong Yong-sik said, "This joint inspection focuses on closely examining traffic safety-related issues in each region on-site and preparing effective improvement measures," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a traffic environment where citizens can feel safe through close cooperation with related organizations."
