[Financial News] Jeju Air analyzed its passenger data and found that those referred to as 'active seniors' in their 60s to 70s are seeking new experiences more than other age groups.
Jeju Air announced on the 14th that, based on an analysis of the top 10 routes most used by passengers in their 20s and 30s and those in their 60s and 70s during July to August last year, both age groups ranked 'Japan' as number one. For those in their 20s and 30s, popular destinations such as △Greater China (8%) △Philippines (7%) △Thailand (7%) followed. In contrast, those in their 60s and 70s were found to travel to diverse regions such as △Vietnam (22%) △China (16%) △Mongolia (9%) △Laos (8%).
In particular, last year saw a significant increase in demand from active seniors choosing routes to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and Yanji, China. The number of senior passengers traveling from Incheon and Busan to Ulaanbaatar using Jeju Air during July to August last year was a total of 7,700, more than double the 3,300 during the same period in 2023.
Jeju Air explained that active seniors are showing interest in new cities beyond the traditionally popular travel destinations, and as they pursue experiences that match their preferences, the range of travel destinations is broadening.
It is expected that the popular routes for active seniors will become an important criterion for family trips with those in their 20s and 30s.
Vientiane, Laos, well-known as a pilgrimage route for Buddhists since ancient times, Ulaanbaatar, where you can travel like the ancient Mongols by riding horses instead of cars, and Yanji, China, known for Baekdusan tours and golf trips, are attractive summer travel destinations to enjoy with family this summer.
Jeju Air plans to expand the seat supply on routes that were popular among senior customers during the peak season to meet this travel demand.
Jeju Air will increase the frequency of flights during the July to August period, including △Incheon~Fukuoka 7 times a week △Busan~Fukuoka 14 times a week △Incheon~Ulaanbaatar 2 times a week, and will also add a total of 50 flights per week on 9 other routes.
A Jeju Air representative said, "As the active senior customer base seeks unique experiences, the selection of travel destinations is diversifying," and "As the demand for family trips with parents is also increasing, we will actively discover hidden unique routes to broaden customer choices."
