[Financial News] It has been revealed that a former tennis player from India was shot dead by her father, causing shock.
On the 11th (local time), multiple local media outlets such as the Times of India and India Today reported that former Indian tennis player Radhika Yadav (25) was shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav (49) at her home.
Deepak shot his daughter Radhika, who was cooking in the kitchen at home, around 10:30 AM on the 10th. Of the five shots fired by Deepak, four hit Radhika in the neck, back, and shoulder, and it is reported that Radhika's uncle Kuldeep Yadav, who was startled by the gunshots, found her collapsed.
Radhika was immediately transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police arrested Deepak shortly after the incident, and he confessed to his crime. According to a police spokesperson, Deepak was displeased with his daughter running a tennis academy and felt anger and anxiety at being mocked by others for living off her daughter's income.
The Times of India reported that Radhika was an active member of the Indian junior national tennis team and was a promising player who made it to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings in 1999. However, after retiring from her playing career due to an injury, she transitioned to coaching and recently began renting tennis courts to train local prospects.
Despite having a stable life with rental income, Deepak felt uncomfortable with the perception that he was dependent on his daughter's income. According to the police, Deepak had been suffering from depression for several weeks leading up to the incident due to this issue.
After the incident became known, Radhika's friend and fellow tennis player Himanshika Singh Rajput criticized Deepak on her social networking service (SNS), saying, "Radhika's father controlled and constantly criticized his daughter for years, making her life miserable," and "He listened to friends who were jealous of his daughter's success."
Himanshika also claimed, "They could not tolerate Radhika living independently," and "They criticized her for wearing shorts, talking to boys, and living her life her way," asserting that Deepak had been controlling his daughter for a long time. In fact, Deepak opposed not only the operation of Radhika's tennis academy but also her SNS activities, and it is known that Radhika deleted all her SNS accounts due to her father's opposition.
