[Financial News] A reality we don't want to believe is unfolding before our eyes.
Korean women's volleyball has been relegated in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). The Korean national team, led by coach Fernando Morales, suffered a complete defeat with a set score of 0-3 against France yesterday (13th), recording 1 win and 11 losses, and remained in 17th place among the 18 participating countries.
However, the worst scenario occurred today. Thailand, which was tied with Korea with 5 points, added points in the last match against Canada, pushing Korea to the brink.
Thailand lost to Canada in a full-set battle 2-3 (25-17, 23-25, 28-30, 25-23, 13-15), but gained a valuable 1 point. According to VNL regulations, even if you lose 2-3, you get 1 point, so Thailand recorded a total of 6 points, surpassing Korea (5 points) and rising to 17th place. As a result, Korea fell to the bottom and was relegated to the lower league of the VNL, the Challenger Cup.
In this VNL, Korea achieved its only 3-2 victory against Canada, but succumbed to all the other 11 teams. In last year's VNL, they defeated Thailand and escaped the swamp of 30 consecutive international losses, and also captured France, recording 2 wins and 15th place among 16 countries.
However, this year, they failed to achieve even the goal of 'at least 2 wins', failing to remain, clearly showing the current status of Korean women's volleyball.
