【Financial News Gyeonggi=Kim Kyung-soo Reporter】 Gyeonggi Province announced on the 14th that it will provide additional support of 'immune enhancers' to poultry farms vulnerable to heat due to the ongoing heatwave.
Previously, the province supplied 66 tons of immune enhancers such as vitamins and minerals to poultry and pig farms in May. This additional support (20 tons) is a follow-up measure.
Farm damage due to the heatwave is continuing. As of the 10th, 41 cases of damage, affecting about 50,000 animals, have been reported in 13 cities and counties including Paju City.
In particular, the damage to poultry farms is severe. Chickens are sensitive to heat stress, resulting in a high mortality rate during heatwaves. There is a high risk of various diseases such as decreased laying rate and weakened immunity.
The province emphasized the need for thorough ventilation and temperature control to prevent farm heat damage, and to provide plenty of fresh water and feed. Additionally, it was explained that using immune enhancers when necessary, and strictly adhering to quarantine rules such as disinfection inside and outside the barn and controlling access, can prevent diseases and reduce damage.
Lee Kang-young, Director of Livestock Animal Welfare at Gyeonggi Provincial Government, said, “As the heatwave continues due to recent climate change, farm damage is increasing,” and “I hope this immune enhancer support will help protect livestock health and stabilize farm management.”
Meanwhile, the province is implementing the 'Gyeonggi Climate Insurance' policy. All residents are automatically enrolled without a separate subscription process.
Main symptoms include △heat or cold-related illnesses (heatstroke, hypothermia, etc.) due to heatwaves or cold waves △specific infectious diseases (malaria, tsutsugamushi, etc.) △cases of injury due to other climate disasters. Insurance benefits range from 100,000 to 500,000 won.
