According to the Busan Police Agency, a fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment in Mandeok-dong, Buk-gu, Busan, at around 12:20 PM on the 13th.

The fire department was dispatched following a report from a resident who witnessed flames and smoke, and about 20 minutes later, at 12:42 PM, they issued a Level 1 response to begin extinguishing and rescue operations.

The fire brigade used ladder trucks to rescue 4 evacuated residents and 3 family members from the affected unit.

Among the family members, the mother, Ms. A (in her 80s), and the eldest son, Mr. B (in his 50s), were found in cardiac arrest and transported to the hospital but ultimately died.

The second son, Mr. C (in his 50s), who was with them, suffered second-degree burns on both arms but is reported to be in stable condition.

The fire department completed extinguishing the fire at around 1:57 PM and is investigating the exact cause of the fire.

The apartment where the fire occurred is a 15-story building, approved for completion in 2006, and is known to be exempt from the mandatory sprinkler installation requirement.

The police and fire department plan to conduct a joint inspection on the 14th to further investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of property damage.
