[Financial News] The People Power Party is unable to narrow the differences in opinions regarding personnel renewal. The Innovation Committee urged for apologies and reflection regarding former President Yoon Seok-yeol's martial law, impeachment, and candidate replacement incidents, while the party leadership rejected the idea of driving out a specific faction.
Yoon Hee-sook, the Innovation Committee Chairman, held a press conference on the 13th, stating, "We haven't crossed the sea of impeachment, and those who say there's no need to apologize or reflect are pushing the party to its death, making them the top priority for personnel renewal," adding, "Those who say there's nothing to do are relying on the votes thrown by Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon for politics."
Previously, Chairman Yoon mentioned former President Yoon's martial law and impeachment incidents, and some lawmakers opposing Yoon's dismissal, stating that they would include a public apology in the party's constitution and regulations. Some lawmakers criticized this as only causing internal strife. Na Kyung-won, a lawmaker, said, "Innovation plans without gathering opinions repeat conflicts and divisions," and lawmaker Jang Dong-hyuk questioned, "How long will we keep apologizing?"
Chairman Yoon, at the press conference that day, particularly mentioned the 45 lawmakers who opposed President Yoon's dismissal and took to the streets to protest. He pointed out, "Right after martial law, a photo of about 40 lawmakers protesting to protect the president was published, providing a pretext for those who want to attack our party."
Regarding the methodology of personnel renewal, he mentioned the party member recall system that was proposed as an innovation plan. Chairman Yoon said, "We included the recall procedure for all elected officials and party officials in the innovation plan," adding, "The role of the Innovation Committee is to create a foundation for party members to use that tool with their will."
On the other hand, Song Eon-seok, the Emergency Committee Chairman and Floor Leader, expressed the stance that the Innovation Committee should not target a specific faction.
Chairman Song appeared on KBS Sunday Diagnosis on the same day, saying, "I think we should approach it with the mindset that we are all responsible, and we are all both the object and the subject of innovation," emphasizing, "If we approach it by driving out a specific faction, we will inevitably face complete defeat."
He also drew a line, saying that personnel renewal is not the top priority. He argued that preparing a presidential election white paper to review past issues and hold accountability is the first step. It was also highlighted that lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo, who had resigned from the Innovation Committee Chairman position, agreed that writing the white paper should be prioritized.
