[Financial News] Park In-kyu, a distinguished professor of physics at Seoul City University, has been appointed as the head of the Ministry of Science and ICT's Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters.
The head of the Science and Technology Innovation Headquarters, who oversees national science and technology policy, serves as the control tower for science and technology and research and development (R&D) policy.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 13th, Director Park graduated from the Department of Physics at Korea University and received a master's degree from the same university's graduate school. He later earned a Ph.D. in particle physics from the University of Paris XI in France. Director Park is a scholar who has accumulated research achievements in particle physics. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and is recognized as a leading physicist representing Korea in the field of particle accelerator experiments.
He served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE) at the University of Barcelona in Spain, a researcher in the Department of Physics at Yale University in the United States, and a research professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Rochester. After returning to Korea, he started as an associate professor in the Department of Physics at Seoul City University and is currently working as a distinguished professor in the Department of Physics and the director of the Institute of Natural Sciences at Seoul City University. He is also a member of the IID panel of the International Future Accelerator Committee (ICFA) and the president of the Korean Society of High Energy Physics.
Kang Yoo-jung, the Presidential Office Spokesperson, evaluated at the vice-ministerial appointment briefing that "Director Park In-kyu is expected to contribute to creating an R&D environment where scientists can focus solely on research and science by gathering voices from the field of science and technology."
