Visits to EU, France, UK, and India from the 14th to convey national philosophy and diplomatic vision
[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung, after taking office, dispatches his first presidential special envoy team to the European Union (EU), France, the United Kingdom, and India on the 13th. The special envoys include former Environment Minister Yoon Yeo-jun, former Justice Minister Kang Geum-sil, Representative Choo Mi-ae, and former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, among other current and former ruling party figures.
The Presidential Office stated that day, "To announce the return of democratic Korea to the international community and explain the new government's national philosophy and foreign policy, special envoys will be dispatched to major countries," adding, "After consultations with the target countries, the special envoys are scheduled to depart sequentially starting this week."
The EU special envoy team will visit Brussels, Belgium, from the 14th to the 17th, led by former Environment Minister Yoon Yeo-jun, accompanied by Representatives Jeon Hyun-hee and Son Myung-soo. They will meet with key figures from the EU Council and European Parliament to discuss ways to strengthen the 'Korea-EU Strategic Partnership' established in 2010, as well as expanding practical cooperation in digital transformation, climate change response, and advanced science and technology fields.
The France special envoy team will visit Paris from the 15th to the 18th, led by former Justice Minister Kang Geum-sil, with Representatives Han Byung-do and Chun Joon-ho accompanying. The special envoys plan to convey the President's intention to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, AI, space, defense, and overall cultural and human exchanges, as the two countries celebrate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
The UK special envoy team will visit London from the 16th to the 19th, led by Representative Choo Mi-ae, with Representatives Choi Min-hee and Park Sun-won participating as members. They will meet with UK government and parliamentary officials to discuss cooperation in defense, arms, and economic collaboration, as well as joint responses to global challenges such as climate change.
The special envoy team visiting India during the same period will be led by former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum. Song Soon-ho, the top member of the Democratic Party, and Representative Lee Gae-ho will participate as members to hold talks with Indian government officials. Discussions will focus on expanding comprehensive cooperation based on the 'Korea-India Special Strategic Partnership' established 10 years ago, including supply chains, defense, core technology, and cultural and human exchanges.
The Presidential Office stated, "This dispatch of special envoys is the first step in announcing the new government's diplomatic direction and a starting point for restoring trust with the international community," adding, "Additional special envoys will be dispatched as soon as consultations with other major countries are completed."
