Democratic Party: 'Should Be a Venue for Policy Verification, Not Obstruction of State Affairs'
[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea urged the People Power Party on the 13th, ahead of the confirmation hearings for the first cabinet of the Lee Jae-myung government, which will officially begin on the 14th, to "use the confirmation hearings as a venue for policy verification, not as a means of obstructing state affairs."
Moon Geum-ju, the Democratic Party's floor spokesperson, stated in a written briefing on the same day, "Ahead of the confirmation hearings for the first cabinet minister candidates of the Lee Jae-myung government, starting on the 14th, the People Power Party is once again engaging in political strife," adding, "In particular, the abuse allegations against Kang Seon-woo, the candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, are nothing but malicious personal attacks based on unverified information and a clear smear campaign."
Moon, the floor spokesperson, said, "The submission of materials and responses from the candidates have been proceeding smoothly so far, and there is no major issue in verifying their qualifications and capabilities. However, the People Power Party is distorting the hearings by fixating on unilateral claims and strategic frames rather than objective facts."
He further pointed out, "Is the confirmation hearing merely a means for the People Power Party to obstruct state affairs? If the confirmation hearings for the ministerial candidates become a subject of political strife, the damage will ultimately fall on the people."
Moon, the floor spokesperson, emphasized, "The Democratic Party will do its utmost to ensure that a fair process is established to objectively verify the candidates' abilities and qualifications through this confirmation hearing," adding, "The People Power Party should also reflect on the 31 cases during the Yoon Seok-yeol government era where appointments were made without the adoption of confirmation reports, and approach the hearings with at least minimal responsibility and consistency."
Additionally, he added, "Political strife cannot overcome public sentiment, and politics that ignore the people will inevitably be judged," he added.
