[Financial News] Hyundai Motor and Boston Dynamics recently held discussions with 8 global company chief human resources officers about the direction of human resources (HR) management in the robot-artificial intelligence (AI) era.
While sharing the current status of robots and AI being used on site, attendees agreed that in the future, AI will expand as a 'digital colleague', forming a new organizational culture based on robots and AI.
In particular, attendees diagnosed that the importance of talents with high 'technology understanding' will increase in the future and emphasized that HR must evolve into a role that designs the integration of technology and humans under the recognition that the coexistence of robots, AI, and humans in companies is inevitable.
Hyundai Motor recently invited 8 global company chief human resources officers, including those from global logistics company UPS, global clothing brand Gap, and Keurig Dr Pepper, to the Boston Dynamics headquarters to engage in in-depth discussions about the role of human resources in the robot-AI era, it was announced on the 13th.
During this discussion, attendees directly observed demonstrations of the bipedal robot Atlas, the quadrupedal robot Spot, and the logistics robot Stretch made by Boston Dynamics, enhancing their understanding of the roles robots can play in the industrial field.
Furthermore, they exchanged opinions on the actual cases of robot adoption, their effects, future improvements, and the possibility of expanding the scope of robot work.
Particularly, they diagnosed that in the near future, robots will be able to play advanced roles beyond simple mechanical devices, and discussed the HR direction where humans and robots can coexist.
UPS shared examples of AI being used, such as the currently operating AI call center assistant, and attendees noted the potential for a new organizational culture based on robots and AI, as AI expands beyond just a tool for work and is embedded in humanoid robots as 'digital colleagues'.
The scope and productivity of robot work can explosively develop through integration with AI, and there was a consensus that each company should quickly introduce AI-equipped robots to proactively accumulate related data.
Focusing on the importance of talents with high technology understanding in the future, attendees agreed that HR should evolve into a role that designs the integration of technology and humans and presents new business models, given that robots, AI, and humans inevitably coexist in companies.
Kim Hye-in, Vice President of Hyundai Motor's HR Headquarters, emphasized, "The fact that top HR officers, not from manufacturing or technology development, directly met to discuss the role of HR in the robot-AI era itself is significant," adding, "Hyundai Motor will lead the global trend so that HR can go beyond its traditional role and suggest the direction of the company's business."
