From July next year, mobile IDs will be additionally issued and used through four bank apps.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 13th that it has selected Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank, Industrial Bank of Korea, and Hana Bank as private sector participants for mobile ID issuance in 2025.
With this selection, mobile IDs can be issued and used through government apps and a total of 10 private apps.
Previously, Samsung Electronics has been providing the service since March last year, and Kookmin Bank, Naver, NongHyup Bank, Toss, and KakaoBank will start services from the end of this month.
The selected four companies will begin system development this month, complete system construction by the first quarter of next year, and if they pass the conformity assessment by the second quarter, they will provide mobile ID services from July next year.
The four participating companies have expressed their determination to provide the highest level of security, considering the uniqueness of IDs, by committing company-wide support.
Yong-seok Lee, Director of Digital Government Innovation, stated, "As creative and innovative services from the private sector are added to the mobile ID platform built by the government, mobile IDs will establish themselves as a representative public-private collaboration model that citizens can practically experience."
