[Financial News]  The Bangucheon Petroglyphs in Ulsan, where one can feel the life and breath of prehistoric people, have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee announced on the 12th (local time) that it had made a final decision to list two petroglyphs from Korea on the World Heritage List at the 47th session held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. The official name is 'Petroglyphs along the Bangucheon Stream'.

Petroglyphs refer to images carved or drawn on rock or cave walls.

The Bangucheon Petroglyphs are recognized as a masterpiece of prehistoric culture on the Korean Peninsula and are a world-renowned heritage. It consists of the National Treasure 'Ulsan Daegok-ri Bangudae Petroglyphs' and 'Ulsan Cheonjeon-ri Inscriptions and Petroglyphs'.

Along with the Bangucheon Petroglyphs, Korea now possesses a total of 17 World Heritage Sites, starting with the first listings of Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, Haeinsa Temple Janggyeong Panjeon, and Jongmyo Shrine in 1995.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a heritage recognized as having Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) that must be protected for all humanity according to the World Heritage Convention of 1972.
