[Financial News] Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul inspected the customer waiting rooms and the operation of cooling aids at Konkuk University Station and Ttukseom Station on Subway Line 2 on the morning of the 12th. Konkuk University Station and Ttukseom Station are located above ground and are 'non-air-conditioned stations' where air conditioners are not operated.
Mayor Oh first checked the operation of the customer waiting room and cooling aids at Konkuk University Station and listened to an explanation about the plan to install additional cooling aids from the relevant personnel. He then boarded the subway to Ttukseom Station, checking the cooling conditions inside the train and inspecting safety facilities such as emergency exits and closed-circuit (CC)TVs.
Upon arriving at Ttukseom Station, he checked the site of the 'Donghaeng Shelter' customer waiting room, which is under renovation with the goal of starting operation in early August.
The Donghaeng Shelter is an open space where not only subway passengers but also any citizen can relax and enjoy leisure. It is equipped with heating and cooling facilities, wireless charging facilities, air purification facilities, and displays that provide train information and various news.
Mayor Oh stated, "As the record-breaking heatwave continues, citizens using subway stations without cooling facilities are experiencing inconvenience," adding, "In the long term, we will carry out environmental improvement projects for old underground stations and actively operate Donghaeng Shelters and cooling aids to alleviate the inconvenience for citizens using the subway, an important means of transportation for the public."
Currently, there are a total of 51 non-air-conditioned subway stations in Seoul, including 25 above-ground stations where air conditioning installation is not possible and 26 old underground stations.
Non-air-conditioned stations are operating customer waiting rooms equipped with cooling facilities and cooling aids.
The city plans to expand the customer waiting rooms in non-air-conditioned ground stations from the current 14 locations at 9 stations to 33 locations at 19 stations, starting with the operation of 4 Donghaeng Shelters at 4 stations in August.
It is estimated that approximately 60 billion won per station will be required for the overall improvement of the aging environment, including the installation of cooling facilities in underground stations, and the city plans to actively secure budgets by applying for national funds next year to proceed with the project sequentially.
