Total Project Cost Approximately 300 Billion Won
According to the Coast Guard on the 12th, the construction progress of the Western Repair Yard, which the Coast Guard is building on Hwasado, Daldong, Mokpo City, with an investment of 258.3 billion won since 2019, was 86.8% as of the end of last month. The Western Repair Yard can repair up to 160 ships annually, and if it opens within the year, it will serve as the headquarters overseeing the maintenance of ships nationwide, including the existing Busan Repair Yard of the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard is operating the Busan Repair Yard, but due to the lack of lift facilities to raise patrol ships over 1,000 tons, some large ships are entrusted to the Navy Repair Yard for maintenance.
The Coast Guard will recruit 106 new general civil servants to secure excellent personnel ahead of the opening of the Western Repair Yard.
Applications will be accepted from the 15th to the 21st, and the final successful candidates will be announced in October.
A Coast Guard official said, "With the establishment of the Western Repair Yard, we expect to revitalize the ship repair industry and create stable employment for local talents," adding, "We hope for a lot of interest and active support from excellent talents who will be responsible for ship maintenance capabilities."
