[Financial News] It has been revealed that there is a high possibility of a summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, announced this after his first face-to-face meeting with Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting were held on the 11th (local time).
Secretary Rubio conveyed the relationship between President Trump and President Xi as a "very positive working relationship" and stated that "both sides have a strong desire for a summit." However, he did not mention a specific timeline.
Regarding the meeting with Director Wang, he evaluated it as "a very constructive meeting." This meeting was known to be the first face-to-face meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries since the inauguration of Trump's second term, aimed at exploring the possibility of a US-China summit.
According to Bloomberg News, Secretary Rubio mentioned that both the US and China have a strong desire for a summit.
Regarding the schedule for the US-China summit, Bloomberg News reported that a meeting is being considered during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Beijing, China in early August or in Gyeongju, South Korea in late October to early November.
Meanwhile, in mid-May, the two countries held the first high-level US-China trade talks in Geneva, Switzerland, and agreed to significantly reduce tariffs on each other's countries for 90 days.
