Decides not to designate it as an urban planning facility, completely blocking the possibility of living waste treatment facilities

A transfer station is a place where waste is temporarily collected before going to a landfill.
Accordingly, the city plans to install a rest area for sanitation workers, a storage warehouse for pay-as-you-go bags, and a garage for cleaning vehicles on the site next to Guseong Transfer Station (15-1 Unnam-dong, Giheung-gu), and to install a parking lot on the former landfill site (16-2, -3, -4 Unnam-dong, Giheung-gu).
Not deciding it as an urban planning facility means that the possibility of this site being used for living waste treatment facilities in the future is completely blocked.
To this end, Mayor Lee Sang-il met with representatives of the Guseong and Dongbaek Residents' Countermeasure Committee on the 10th and said, "The biggest concern of citizens is that if the former landfill site next to the existing Guseong Transfer Station and the newly acquired site are designated as urban planning facilities, living waste treatment facilities will be established, but to prevent such worries, we will not designate this place as an urban planning facility, and we will revise the existing plan to build a call center and a rest area for sanitation workers, a storage warehouse for pay-as-you-go bags, and a garage and parking lot for cleaning vehicles as neighborhood living facilities."
He also explained, "Regarding the development of Platform City in Singal-dong, Guseong-dong, and Bojeong-dong areas, we will ensure that large waste such as scrap metal and waste appliances, as well as pay-as-you-go waste generated in the future, are handled by Platform City."
He continued, "Regarding the function of the transfer station in Platform City, we need to consult with Gyeonggi-do, the joint project implementer, Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH), and Yongin Urban Corporation, so time is needed," adding, "I have already instructed to start consultations with Gyeonggi-do, judging that it is right for Platform City to handle its own waste."
Accordingly, the city has already sent an official document to Gyeonggi-do stating the need to maintain the transfer function of Platform City, and has held two rounds of consultations between officials.
In addition, Mayor Lee announced that he would also take measures to strengthen facilities for citizen safety, such as △checking the impact of aggregate extraction companies and construction waste treatment companies near Guseong Transfer Station on the surrounding environment △regularly checking the air quality of the Dongbaek-Guseong surrounding area with a mobile air quality measurement vehicle △conducting afforestation projects in some areas around the transfer station △installing safety fences on sidewalks around the transfer station, speed bumps on roads, crosswalk markings, repairing six streetlights, and replacing lights inside culverts.
The city plans to start a project to build a rest area for sanitation workers and call center facilities, a storage warehouse for pay-as-you-go bags, and a garage and parking lot for three cleaning vehicles on the newly acquired site next to Guseong Transfer Station without going through the urban planning facility decision process, based on individual laws.
The city has completed consultations with Gyeonggi-do, the supervisory agency, regarding the land use plan to use the former landfill site as a parking lot.
The city also initially planned to build a storage warehouse for recyclable materials such as transparent PET bottles here, but revised it to build a storage warehouse for pay-as-you-go bags.
Mayor Lee said, "The issues raised by the residents provided an opportunity to look deeper into the city's plan, and despite the controversy and confusion, we reached a conclusion through the process of reviewing residents' opinions and talking with resident representatives, so I think it can be a model for solving problems through communication with citizens."
