The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit announced on the 11th that they have received a request from the Ministry of Education to investigate the threat post against returning residents and medical students posted on the exclusive community 'Medistaff' for doctors and medical students, and have started an investigation to identify the author.
Previously, a user presumed to be a medical student posted on Medistaff, "Gamgyul, we are coming. When we return, we will XX you." 'Gamgyul' is said to be a derogatory term for returning medical personnel.
Medistaff is an anonymous platform that requires certification of being a doctor or medical student to join. It is known for its strict security measures, such as leaving a watermark on personal information when capturing the screen.
Previously, on the 30th of last month, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent the representative and management staff of Medistaff to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention on charges of aiding and abetting violations of the Information and Communications Network Act and the Stalking Punishment Act by allowing 'medical community blacklist' posts to be continuously posted.
A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official stated, "We plan to investigate illegal acts such as defamation and threats that interfere with the free choice of medical students and residents swiftly and strictly according to the law and principles."
